Our giving at St. Mary's

The bible suggests that everyone should aim to give 10% of their income, we understand this not as a rule but an excellent guide, and we encourage all members of the church community to consider giving at this level.

We therefore, as a whole church, give 10% of our income away every year. In 2017, this totalled £10,750.

A small group, working on behalf of the PCC, research and select the organisations we give to - and all members of the congregation are encouraged to nominate charitable organisations and causes that you would like us to consider for our giving next year. To make a suggestion, please contact James Cooke at james.cooke11@btopenworld.com

As a church in 2017 we have given to the following organisations:
International Organisations:
Christian Aid
Christian Aid is a Christian organization that insists the world can and must be swiftly changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty. They provide urgent, practical and effective assistance where need is great, tackling the effects of poverty as well as its root causes.

CLEAR International
CLEAR is a grass roots organisation that helps individuals in their court cases with the help of local lawyers. Their aim is to help our partners overseas to reach a point where they are self-sufficient, financially and organisationally. To that end, they are also encouraging and part funding new "business" ventures, providing work for the poor and profits to help run the law projects.
Church Mission Society
The Church Mission Society is a long-established and widely respected multi-faceted mission society working in over 50 countries, with an emphasis on building up local church capacity.
Lend with Care
Lend With Care offers a helping hand to world's poorer entrepreneurs. For example we can now help entrepreneurs in Zambia and Pakistan with as little as £15.
National Organisations:
Christians Against Poverty
Christians Against Poverty is a Christian charity dedicated to debt advice, helping people out of debt, and education on personal financial management. It has 250 debt centres around the country, mostly based in churches. We feel its work is particularly important at this time.
Local Organisations:

Maidstone and Weald Samaritans
The Samaritans lets vulnerable people talk to them at any time you like, about whatever's getting to you.
Kent Kindness
Kent Kindness have set up volunteer group’s to give additional support to asylum seeking boys aged 16-17 while they are in the Ashford reception centre, and then afterwards when they are living in the community. They aim to help and supplement the activities and facilities already provided by the Kent County Council staff, and we work in partnership with them.

Goudhurst Scouts
Goudhurst Scouts is one of 7 groups within the Weald District in Kent. They have active sections for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, catering for boys and girls from ages 6 to 14 years old. They meet weekly at Goudhurst Scout Hut in School Lane during term time, with lots of other activities at weekends and school holidays.

Fegans supports children and families in South East England by providing advice, training, and counselling and support groups to parents, schools, children and teenagers.
Readycall is a voluntary service based in Goudhurst that provides services for the needs of the community.
